Gloria Lou Deckert

MADISON-Gloria L. Deckert, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Oak Park Place.  She was born on April 29, 1935, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of James and Norma (Koppin) Deckert.  Gloria graduated from Redford High School in Detroit, and Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C.  She worked as a teacher for the Madison Metropolitan School District at Kennedy Elementary School.  Gloria volunteered in support of Awana, Samaritan Purse, Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), and Door Creek Church.  She loved her cats, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens.  She also had a love for photography and took many pictures.  Gloria enjoyed spending time with her close friends, and her love of children showed in her many years of teaching 4th grade and volunteer activities in retirement.  Gloria is survived by her brother, Glenn David (Ann) Deckert; niece, Natalie (David) Vogt; nephew, James (Jennifer) Deckert; two great-nieces; two great-nephews; and many close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents.  A memorial service will be held at DOOR CREEK CHURCH, 6602 Dominion Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday June 7, 2018, with the Rev. Cal Steiner presiding.
