Obituary
Duane J. Dunham, age 89, passed away peacefully Monday, June 12, 2017, in Waunakee, surrounded by his family, after an 11 year battle with Alzheimer’s. Duane was born in Cudahy on March 21, 1928, the son of Orville and Helen (Hanson) Dunham. He graduated from Cudahy HS and earned his bachelors in Journalism from Marquette University. After serving as a radio operator in the Air Force during the Korean War, he started his business in 1956. Community Newspapers grew to 23 suburban newspapers around Milwaukee by 1986, when he retired. In 1961 he married the love of his life, Gloria (Reynolds). Duane’s compassion was evident as a husband, son, grandfather and employer and he always did all he could to make people laugh. Duane is survived by his daughter Patti (Bret) Buelo of Middleton and four grandchildren, Cal, Audrey, Collin and Aaron. A private family celebration of his life will be held. The family thanks Agrace Hospice and Homestead Living for their excellent care over the past three years. Patti: I had the pleasure to work for your dad from 1971 until 1986. He gave me my first full-time job out of college. He was a good employer and more than that he was a nice guy that cared about his employees.

Duane was one the VERY best bosses ever! He was always fair, honest, ethical, modest & funny. He touched everyone he knew. I'll never forget him. My condolences to his surviving realatives and friends. My job there was my most favorite! I still love & enjoy advertising. Once you get the 'newspaper business in your blood' it stays there. His former art director @ Community Newspaper.. Thank you Duane., Carol Lynn Kertz

Hello Patti..Dave Chvilicek recently sent this clipping from 1986 and it brought back so many wonderful memories of your dad and how much he meant to me..my business mentor, and more importantly, my friend. He played such a huge part of my newspaper career and for that I am forever extremely appreciative to have had the opportunity to work for him. Unfortunately we lost touch after he moved to be near his dear daughter and her family, but he has always been in mind so I was saddened to learn of his passing. Duane was a dedicated journalist, in addition to his entrepreneurial spirit who was an inspiration to many. I'm forever grateful for his guidance and the faith he put in my ability to Shepard his "baby" after he retired. Rest well my friend..you will never be forgotten.
