Obituary

POYNETTE-Wendell H. Stoltenberg, age 75, of Poynette, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his home. He was born on Dec. 18, 1940, the son of William H. Stoltenberg and Mamie W. Pribbenow. Wendell graduated from Poynette High School and the UW-Whitewater. He served in the National Guard with honors. Wendell married Linda L. Becker on Sept. 20, 1969, in Marshfield. He worked for Madison Crushing and Excavating for over 40 years and was in charge of the day-to-day operations, vital to the company's success. Wendell always put his loving wife, Linda, first. They spent 46 wonderful years together. Linda truly was Wendell's soulmate and together they stood side by side every day. He always calmly and patiently waited for her. Wendell's pride and joy was his daughter, Becky. They had a very unique father/daughter relationship and could complete each other's sentences and read one another's minds. Becky is a spitting image of her father. Wendell's greatest joy was watching Becky play basketball where she became the all-time scoring leader at Lodi High School. She went on to receive a scholarship from the University of the Ozarks in Arkansas and became a two-time All-American. Wendell's work wasn't finished after his daughter graduated from college. He proceeded to help his daughter and son-in-law with their four businesses they now own. Wendell did all the accounting for them until the last few weeks of his life. He provided insight that was instrumental to the success of their companies. Wendell was a MacGyver of sorts. He practically built his own house and was a jack-of-all-trades, which earned him the nickname MacGyver. Wendell loved boating, traveling and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, friend and grandparent. Wendell's loved ones will miss him every day. God needed another MacGyver and he got just that in Wendell. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Becky (Larry) Ring; grandchildren, Brady, Sophia and Anthony; brother, Robert Stoltenberg; and sisters, Margaret Hebel and Shirley Stoltenberg. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Frankie Stoltenberg, Bernice Stiemke, William Stoltenberg Jr., Helen Zellmer and David Stoltenberg. A funeral service will be held at DEKORRA LUTHERAN CHURCH, N3099 Smith Rd., Poynette, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 14, 2016. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON LODI FUNERAL HOME, 157 S. Main St., Lodi, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. I have a wonderful memory of Wendell, and it might be one that wasn't recently shared with his family. I lived across the hall from Wendell when we were Freshmen at Whitewater. He had the only reliable car in the dormitory: a beautiful 1955 Chevrolet, that was his pride and joy. Somehow, we convinced him (and he convinced his parents) to spend Easter Vacation in New Orleans. A car-load of greenhorns from Wisconsin in the Crescent City....what a great memory for me of a great guy! A lot of reminiscences came through my aging mind today, reading Wendell's obituary. You have my sincere sympathies. John Willoughby Evansville, WI
