David Lloyd Marson

MADISON / OLDHAM, ENGLAND – David L. Marson, age 67, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at University Hospital. Dave was born in Oldham, England on July 30, 1948, the son of Ella Marson (Sid Rogerson).   Dave served in the British Army in Germany and Libya.  A little known fact about Dave is that after military service, he became a roadie for The Hollies, and eventually worked for London Transport on the Piccadilly and District Lines on the London Underground. It was in London where Dave met the love of his life.  Carrie Brylla of Reedsburg, WI was charmed by this handsome Brit and they were married on January 22, 1982 at the Acton Registry Office, London.  Dave and Carrie moved to the United States in 1987, settling in Madison.  Dave worked for the UW Physical Plant and Housing for many years, and then later for Enterprise car rentals.  He enjoyed his all-too-short retirement for the last three years.   Dave would want people to know that he became a U.S. citizen on January 27, 1994, so he would be able to vote.  Please honor Dave by voting! Dave loved people, and people loved Dave.  With his winning smile, quick wit, and engaging British accent, Dave made friends wherever he went.  His weekly breakfast at the Jet Room, daily trips to Mickey D's for senior coffee (2 creams, 2 sugars) and Carrie's Diet Coke, and lively discussions of sports and politics at the Harmony Bar are just a few of things we'll remember.  We cannot forget his jokes.  Good or bad, he loved sharing them.              Dave's passion was sports – any sport, but especially English football – and American football as well.  He was an avid viewer of any sport that came on TV, from whatever continent or country, it didn't matter.  He watched the competition and cheered for the athletes.  For the last 15+ years, Dave and Carrie bowled in a couple's league and he will be missed by the friends at Prairie Lanes.                 In addition to his wife Carrie, Dave is survived by his American family: Claudia and Arnie Brylla, Dan (Sue) Brylla, of Reedsburg, David Brylla (Bjorn Rogness) of Bay View WI, nephew Christopher Brylla of Reedsburg, niece Jessica Brylla (Jason O'Hara) and great niece Abbigail O'Hara of Cottage Grove.  Also survived by his family in England: Hilda and Alwyn Rosebury, Shirley and Roy Rogerson, goddaughters Kara Hardy and Jessica Bennett, and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.  Dave will be missed by many friends, and especially by special friends Sue and Trevor Ankers, Scooby and Moss Hughes, Sue Krey, Buffy Hogan, and Kate Mayne.   He was preceded in death by his parents Ella and Sid Rogerson and brother, Jimmy (Val) Rogerson.            Carrie, family and friends send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of University Hospital Cardiac ICU for their expert care, kindness and compassion in the final weeks and hours of Dave's life.  A Celebration of Life for Dave will be held at the Eastside Club, 3735 Monona Drive, Madison on Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 2 - 6 PM.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to your favorite local charity.  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
