Obituary
MADISON-LeRoy F. "HOOT" Holzwarth, age 86, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at U.W. Hospital. He was born on Aug. 28, 1929, in Madison, the son of Roy and Jeanette Holzwarth. LeRoy married Elizabeth Haas on June 30, 1952, in Madison. He worked for the U.S. Marines, then the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Valley Forge, the railroad, and retired from the Sheriff's Department. LeRoy was the past commander of VFW Post No. 7591, and past grand commander and commander for MOC-PUPTENT No. 41. He enjoyed hunting in Saskatchewan and fishing in Ontario. LeRoy is survived by his children, Lynnette (Phil) Cuff, Lucky (Karen) Holzwarth, Lydell (Cindy) Holzwarth, Lorilee (Kendall) Lund and Lisette (Steve) Tilker; grandchildren, David (Christina), Edward, Elliot (Ashley), Lindsay (Nick), Tiffany (Andy), Forest, Christopher (Sosha) and Nicholas; and great-grandchildren, Finley, Aven, Lincoln, Myka, Elynor, Kailyn, Caden, Cameron, Nolan and Penelope. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Lynell; and brother, Rodney. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at noon, on Monday, April 25, 2016. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Memorials may be made to VFW Post No. 7591.

I'm So Sorry Sorry, To hear this a bout OUT GREAT FRIEND.We all on Valley Forge, Well miss him very very much. Lee Roy, Though, me a lot on having Reunions. Really LOVED THIS MAN. Well pray for your family. I well be there in my Mind. with the LORD.. Just a good word on him, I don't know if you new this. But at Reunions, He gave $100.00, seems like it was his birthday. He got me doing this also. To help it be better. Now what I'm going to do is at reunion in Pa this Sept, I am going to put $100.00 in for him, And$100.00 for me. Now no body new this, but him and me. it was a tip jar. He well know that I did this. A gain I'm sorry. I LOVED HIM AS ALL OF US DID.

My deepest condolences to his family. Mr. Holzwarth was my late father's shipmate on the USS Valley Forge. Last year, after I had had my father's Navy photos published in the Korean War Veterans Association magazine along with some questions I had, Mr. Holzwarth was the first person to call me at home to try to answer my questions. When I thanked him at the end of the phone call, he said, "I'd do anything for a shipmate." I'll never forget that moment. I was able to meet him once at the Valley Forge reunion in San Diego last fall. He was a true gentleman. Bob Dial, Glenville, NY.

Our Deepest Sympathies in the Passing of your Dad!
We had some great times hunting ,cooking great feasts ,enjoyed many treats he would bring to Canada for us!,and many laughs over the years! He was like family,him and Rae Kurth. And will be missed Greatly! With his many trips to Kennedy Sask. Hunting and staying at the "Waldorf " as they joked about the old house they fixed up for their hunting lodge. RIP "HOOT"
