Obituary
OREGON-Kenneth Lee "Buck" Pledger, age 75, of Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on July 15, 1940, in Madison, the son of Charles and Rebecca (Otteson) Pledger. He married Mary Jo Ellingson on Sept. 7, 1957. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1958. Buck was a long-time Law Enforcement Officer, beginning his career in Oregon, and eventually transferring to the Dane County Traffic Enforcement Division. The Traffic Division became the Dane County Sheriff's Dept., where Buck retired as a detective in 1999. He loved to fish, spending vacations on the lakes of Canada. Buck enjoyed hunting with his sons-in-law and grandchildren, watching the Packers and Badgers and taking care of his pets. But he most especially enjoyed being with his wife and family. Buck is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; children, Pamela (John) Simmons of Oregon and Bonnie (Greg) Moses of Chetek; grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Jesse (Rita) Simmons, Nickie (Tom) Beltran and Travis (Julie) Moses; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Tarkenton and Deb Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 5, 2016, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Burial will be at Dunn Burying Grounds, with a luncheon following at the funeral home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, March 4, 2016, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. And there are not too many left from an era when the police were not just police. They were friends when you needed them, and protectors of the community.

If you look up how a police officer should do his job and how they should treat people both on and off duty there would be a picture of Buck Pledger. I am glad that I knew him. I have tremendous respect for Buck. Top notch, first class man. My deepest sympathy goes out to his entire family and all his friends. ''Don't cry because he has left you.. Julie Baglama--I had the pleasure of working with Buck first on the Dane County Traffic Department and eventually on the Sheriff's Office. He was a hard worker, knowledgeable , and friendly officer/detective--I could always count on him for advice and follow-up. I cannot make the funeral and wish I could. My sympathies to family and friends.

I grew up down the street from Buck's family & remember they had a pet monkey. I went down to visit & the monkey bit me. Also in high school industrial arts wood shop, I was with him the day he cut the end of a finger off in the jointer. Buck was a great guy & sure sorry it was his time to go. Times sure have changed from the days of growing up in Oregon. Rest in Peace. John Wischhoff

I will never forget how Buck and Mary Jo danced at my wedding back in 1976. They pretty much owned that dance floor with a performance that was so impressive--such marvelous dancers!
