Obituary

WAUNAKEE/CROSS PLAINS-Curtis Harley Faust, age 86, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 unexpectedly and peacefully surrounded by his family.  Curt was born on July 20, 1929 in Cross Plains, the son of Hugo and Otillia (Braun) Faust where he lived until moving to Waunakee in 1989.  He was a graduate of Middleton High School in 1948 where he lettered in boxing.  He joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War.  Upon his return he met the love of his life, Dorothy at the Riverview Ballroom in Sauk City.  They married on November 7, 1953. Curt worked as a painter for Statz & Harrop and later for Eric Nelson Painting.  He was the best left handed painter there ever was. He was Constable of Cross Plains and a member of the Cross Plains Fire Department.   He joined the U.S. Postal Service where he worked until his retirement.  Curt was an active longtime member of the Cross Plains American Legion Post 245 for over 60 years, being both Commander and Chaplain.  He was also a member of the VFW Post  8216 in Middleton, VFW 11244 of Waunakee, the Korean War Vets Association and ROMEO Club.  Dad loved life and was always a jokester making people laugh.   He took us on many vacations growing up, it was important to him as he loved his family.  He also loved his cars, especially Oldsmobiles and Buicks.  Throughout his life his hobby was making model airplanes, many are displayed in the area.  He was a loyal Packer fan.  Curt enjoyed working in his "museum" listening to old country music.  He shared many stories with his family and friends.  Curt is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; his children, Kathleen (Frank) Schroeder, Jill Faust, Rodney (Judy) Faust and Heidi (Doug) Rauls; his ten grandchildren whom he loved so much, Luke Gilles, Kait (Dan) Timler, Nick Gilles, Lacey Schroeder, Marcus Gilles, Anna Faust, Morgan Gilles, Sarah Faust, Scott Rauls and Nicole Rauls; sisters, Shirley Knight, Ramona (Richard)King; brother, Robert (Lisa) Faust and many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his baby girl; his parents; a brother, Raymond Faust; sisters, Jeanette Anderson, Lucille Tollefson, Irene McElhatton; and Dorothy's mother, Mabel Royston. Funeral Services will be held at PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 701 S. Century Ave., Waunakee, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016, with Pastors Karen and Doug Locken presiding.   Burial with honors at Valley Home Cemetery, Cross Plains.  Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.  at GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME , 2421 Church Street, Cross Plains  and also on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the of the service.  He will be missed by many as he never knew a stranger.  Curt was the best husband and father, we are blessed with many great memories.  We love you so much. My condolences to the Faust family. I met Curt on Okinawa in June 1950. He will be missed by all of the members of the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing. God Bless you Curt. We went through the Korean War together. Keith Fannon
