Obituary

SUN PRAIRIE-Caye (Johnson) Pierce passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare, on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, surrounded by her family, friends and God. She was born in Halstad, Minn., on Feb. 17, 1945, to Carl and Mable (Ostenson) Johnson. After graduation from Hendrum High School, Caye continued on to N.D.S.U. and majored in mathematics and received a teaching certificate. She then relocated to Madison where she began a career as a Separations Engineer with General Telephone. Caye was introduced to Tom by a mutual friend in 1973, where finally, after waiting several weeks, got enough courage to call to ask her to attend a Badgers football game with him. They married on Aug. 24, 1974, and moved to Sun Prairie. After nearly ten years, their son, Tim, was born, who was a wonderful gift from God. Caye is survived by her husband of 41+ years, Thomas L. Pierce; son, Timothy J. (Betsy) Pierce; brother, Donald Johnson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother at birth, Roger C.; and sister, Ione E. (Harold) Gibson. Caye was a devoted wife, loving mother and someone who truly cared for others. She served the Lord teaching kindergarten Sunday school at Bethel Lutheran Church for over 25 years. Even after retiring from teaching Sunday school she continued to help with the Sunday school Christmas program year after year. Auntie Caye will be remembered as a fantastic shopper and gentle spirit. She adored her Norwegian heritage, although she did not particularly care for lutefisk or coffee. GO BISON and ON WISCONSIN! A funeral service will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church or Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Our entire HHS Class of'63 is deeply saddened. She was one of the kindest and most gentle people I have ever known. Several of us who graduated HHS went on to NDSU. Some later transferred to other colleges but by May 1967 three of us graduated together. Caye was one of us that marched on Dakotah Field that day. In 2013 the HHS Class of '63 held it's 50th anniversary reunion in Detroit Lakes. Many of us are especially glad that we had that opportunity to gather and have a wonderful time with Caye and Tom and many other classmates. Our condolences to her wonderful husband, Tom and all family members especially her brother Don, whom we all knew well. Arlen Meline, HHS Class of '63.
