Obituary

MADISON-Edna "May" Kast, age 97, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015. She was born on June 14, 1918, in Brisbane, Australia, to George and Daisy. During World War II, she worked for two years in the munitions factory. It was also during this time that she met her beloved husband, Gus, when he was in Brisbane on leave from serving in the 5th Army Air Corps in the Philippines and New Guinea. They married on May 3, 1943, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Brisbane. After the war, they settled into the home Gus built, outside of Madison where they raised their children and shared 66 years of marriage together. May was a much loved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening and sewing. May also shared her talents through her volunteer work, which included preparing luncheons at St. Bernard Catholic Church and volunteering over 2000 hours at Olbrich Gardens, where she was a founding member of the Olbrich Garden Club. Most of all, she loved spending time with family. May is survived by her children, Elizabeth Kast, Philip (Karen) Kast, Christine (Jerry) Schleicher, Dennis Kast, Steven Kast (Amy), Jeffrey (Paula) Kast and James Kast (Heidi); daughter-in-law, Jenny Kast; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert Kast; and sister, Daisy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Entombment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from noon until the time of the service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. A special thank you to the staff at Home Health United, Chamomile Assisted Living and Nancy and Steve for the care they gave May. Online condolences may be made to www.gundersonfh.com. Dear May's Family, I can't tell you how much I learned from your mother she was a wonderful woman. I loved working with her at St. Bernard's. I often wondered how she did it and raised such a great family but somehow God gave her the strength. You, your spouses are all a tribute to May and Gus you're a great family. May God bless you all and I will keep you all in my heart. Gloria Brockman, Administrative Asst. St. Bernard's.

My husband and I would like to express our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of your beloved Edna. Although we never had the opportunity to meet Edna, personally we wanted to share with you comfort from Gods word found in John 5:28,29. Here Jesus showed us the wonderful example of the resurrection when he resurrected Lazarus, here on earth, back to the arms of those he loved. (John 11) . Remember also that our Heavenly Father expresses his loving compassion for all of us when someone we love dies. (Psalm 34:18) Be sure and share your memories with those who surround you, for the memories shared are the ones most truly cherished, may they bring you a sense of peace and joy in your hearts as you begin to heal. Take care of yourselves and each other during this very difficult time.

Beth, Your mom left a wonderful legacy of family and I know where you got your spunk from! She had a lot of courage to leave family and home to re-settle in America, and now you are doing the same thing in Austrailia. I won't be able to make visitation, but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. It is not easy losing your mother, but you now have another angel watching over all of you. If you are in town, let me know. Take care of yourself and my sympathies to all of your family! Val Brickiner

I remember some of the times we visited with you guys growing up. I hope that you remember them fondly as well. It must be hard to lose folks as wonderful as your parents. But they are both with Robbie and that may be a comforting thought. My folks were Robbie's godparents, if you remember. The Lord bless you, and keep you; The Lord make His face shine on you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace."' So they shall invoke My name on the sons of Israel, and I shall bless them." (Numbers 6: 23-27) God Bless, Gin Marking.
