My name is Dave Proulx, LCDR, USN (Retired). I served aboard the USS White Plains and for a short time with Dave in the early 80's. I was the Damage Control Assistant and in charge of the Repair Division. Dave was the Division Chief. While on paper I was in charge, but Dave was really the leader of the division and he let me believe it was me. Dave taught me a great deal about the technical aspects of the job, but more importantly, he showed me how to be a great leader and to care for the men. Since retiring from the navy in 94, I have had many fond memories of my service. But invariably my most fondest memories go back to the deck plates of the Orient Express where I had the privilege to serve with Dave. I still recall many occasions we spent time together both on duty and off. He was my mentor and my friend and I, like so many other shipmates that were lucky enough to have known him, will miss him terribly. Dave Proulx, LCDR, United States Navy (Retired)
