Obituary

Chamberlain, James D. “Jim” MADISON- James D. “Jim” Chamberlain, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare surrounded by his family. He was born on Dec. 21, 1924, in Madison, the son of Roy and Wilhelmina Chamberlain. He married Maxine D. Nording on June 26, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Madison. Jim was a World War II Veteran and served in the 1880th Engineer Aviation Battalion. In 2012 he went on the Badger Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Jim retired from Wisconsin Power and Light in 1987, and then went to work for his son Dave. He did any odd job Dave needed, and was “Grandpa” to all who worked there. Jim worked until he was 87 years old. He was a member of the Elks Club No. 410, East Side Club and a Boy Scout leader. Jim loved to play cribbage, and taught the game to his children and grandchildren. Many hours were spent over a cribbage board. He also loved to fish, and held a bi-annual fishing trip for over 30 years with friends that were there with him to the end. To these friends he was “The Captain”. What was most important to Jim, was his family and friends. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, and his life was full and rich because of them. Jim is survived by his wife, Maxine; children, David (Pat), Gary (Sue), Kristin and Craig; seven grandchildren, Eric (Katie); Katie, Brian (Kaitlyn), Joe (Lindsey), Kevin, Corey and A.J.; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, at Noon, on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, with Pastor Susan Schneider presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare and Trinity Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace HospiceCare. We could not have done it without you. Mr. Chamberlain was a well respected man. He raised a strong family with his wife and put in many great dedicated years in work and life. He also served his country well, leaving no doubt what kind of man he was. He was a very respected role model and figure in my life as well as many others. I learned many great things from the stories he did share of his past as well as many great things about fishing. He will be missed.

I met Jim shortly after joining WPL in 1974. I really got to know him as a great friend on the fishing trips up to the Chamberlain cabin near Holcolmbe. Since then we all called him the Captain as he guided us to great fun and relaxation. I will never forget him and his wonderful friendship. Ole Karbo

I was with Boy Scout Troop 150 and remember when we went canoeing, I believe it was near Spooner WI. Mr. Chamberlain was one of the adults who went along. That would have been around 1967 or 1968. He was a very well respected and a blast to be around. RIP Mr. Chamberlain! Dave Kratochwill, Middleton ,WI

Dave, Mrs. C.and family. My thoughts and prayers as you remember Mr. C and mourn his passing. Learned a lot about life and toughness from him. I'll always, always remember the famous truck ride, getting caught and having to deal with the consequences. Jim was firm and fair but made a point of letting me know that I had done wrong-great life lesson. Bless you all.
