Olson, Hazel M.
MADISON-Hazel M. Olson, age 103, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Oakwood Village West. Born on Feb. 12, 1911, in La Valle, Wis., the daughter of Herbert and Dorothy Gardner, Hazel married John C. Olson on May 12, 1936, in Madison. She graduated from high school in Reedsberg and then Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Madison. She worked for University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics for 30 years. Hazel’s hobbies consisted of knitting, crocheting, gardening, growing orchids and reading. Her family was her joy in life. Hazel is survived by daughter, La Vonne (David) Middleton; grandsons, John (Jocelyn) Middleton; Paul (Heather) Klebs; granddaughters, Kristen Klebs and Julie (Larry) Brahan; great-grandchildren, Sylvia Middleton, Erica and Jason Brahan and Jacob and Megan Klebs; nieces, nephews and cousins; son-in-law, Ronald (Joan) Klebs; two very special friends Hazel considered her Madison daughters, Liz Middleton and Martha Christiansen; and nursing friend, Doris Buttle. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter, Maxine Olson Klebs; brothers, Herman Gardner and Leo Gardner; and sister, Leota (Gardner) Cochran. Funeral services will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE WEST CHAPEL, 6201 Mineral Point Road, Madison, at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. There will be a private family burial. Visitation will be held at the chapel from noon until the time of the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakwood Village West Foundation or Agrace HospiceCare. For ten yours, Hazel served on the Health Committee while I served as Parish Nurse @ Oakwood.
Her nursing skills were valued in every aspect of decision making for others and herself.
She was faith filled and positive in mind and spirit, with the gift of hospitality.
Two of her favorite foods were Appelbee's chicken and taramusu
MY sympathy to family, for Hazel will be surely missed. I am certain she is celebrating.

Hazel was a wonderful woman who had a strong and abiding faith in God. As Chaplain at Oakwood I was privileged to get to know Hazel first as a volunteer for Pastoral Care and then later as a friend. Such a strong and wonderful woman!!

My deepest sympathy for Hazel's family. She instilled in me the love of God for which I will always be grateful. She & John brought me to church and Maxine and I were confirmed together at Central Lutheran Church. She showed me what caring was all about.
