Obituary

Moody, Mercedes “Mercy” MCFARLAND- Moody, Mercedes “Mercy" was born on Nov. 8, 1917, in Juigalpa, Nicaragua and entered into rest on Monday, April 21, 2014, at her home in McFarland surrounded by family. She was the first of seven children born to Jose D. Perez and Mercedes Castrillo de Perez. Mercy was very friendly and sociable. She enjoyed dancing, playing Canasta, bowling, doing arts and crafts and playing basketball. Mercy married H.A. Winston Moody on Sept. 24, 1939, and was the mother of ten children. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. Mercy is survived by her daughters, Ritma, Maritza (Luis), Vanessa (Kenny), Deborah, Daphne Colleen; her son H.A. Winston Jr.; two sisters, Adilia and Lola; and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.A. Winston Moody; brothers and sisters, Aura Maria, Chester, Omar and Zoyla; her daughters, Phyllis, Yocasta, Vanessa; and her son, Dayton Moody. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at CHRIST THE KING CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5306 Main St., McFarland, at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, with Father D. Stephen Smith and Father Loran Miller concelebrating. Visitation will be at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of Mass on Friday. The Moody and Moroney families would like to give special thanks to Care of Wisconsin Senior Center, Community Living Alliance and Agrace HospiceCare for the wonderful care and support that has been given. I knew your mom because she would be in the van with my mom (Marian Johnson) when she would come home from the day center. I would always come outside to meet the van and your mom and I would always wave to each other and blow each other lots of kisses. Mom and I are really going to miss her because she was such a wonderful person. take care, Jean Coenen

Tia Mercy was a wonderful, loving, gentle and loyal family First Lady. She belonged to a long family line of first female educators, descended from a family that believed in serving their community and nation. I still think of her and Uncle Winston with love and warmth.
