Obituary

MADISON - Mark C. Sobrilsky, age 40, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010. He was born on Sept. 8, 1970, in Beaver Dam, the son of Mark and Shirley (Young) Sobrilsky. Within the first year of Marks life, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which affected his muscle coordination and speech. Mark graduated from LaFollette High School in 1990. He attended Madison Area Technical College and received his degree in website development in 2005. During his time there he received many certificates and diplomas. Mark loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed dancing, playing soccer, watching movies and bowling. He also loved his great times spent at camp every year, moms home cooked meals, being on the computer, his friends at Faith Community Church, watching wrestling with his aide, Andy, and cruising the city in his wheelchair, (we think he went through ten!) and riding the Madison Metro Bus System. Mark is survived by his mother, Shirley Pillow; brother, Michael; great-uncle, Spencer (Clara) Erickson; great-aunt, Rosella; great-uncle, John (Margaret) Ottow; aunt, JoAnn (Gary) Dunn of California and aunt, Dawn Jacobson; uncle, Lee (Jodie) Sobrilsky; aunt, Marilyn (Warren) Condiff; aunt, Betty (Dave) Miller; aunt, Larayne Sobrilsky; and many, cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark, in 1990; maternal grandparents, Charles Ray Young in 1968 and Goldie Sylvia (Erickson) Young in 1997; great-aunt, Marge Erickson in 2000; great-uncle, Leonard Erickson in 2002; cousin, Kurt Erickson in 1983, aunt Mary Seymour in 2002, aunt Dorothy Decker in 1998. Funeral services will be held at LAKE CITY CHURCH, 4909 E. Buckeye Road., Madison, at 1 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, with the Rev. Mike Moore presiding. Visitation will be at the church from noon until the time of the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marks name to Faith Community Bible Church. Thank you so much for teaching me the complexity of the human body. I enjoyed working with you so much this past summer, and know you gave everything your best... which is often more than I can say for myself. You have given me much more that I you, and you will forever be in my heart.

To Mark's family: I have worked in the East Towne area for the past 12 years and have seen and interacted (usually just with our smiles) with Mark over the lunch hour. I can recall seeing him many times on State Street. He truly did put miles on! I was so saddened to hear of his passing. A few months ago he was caught up on a curb by Culver's. I stopped and assisted him with the situation. His strength and independence always was evident in his spirit and his eyes. Without even knowing him, he touched my heart. My deepest sympathy to you all and celebrate his life just like he would want you to do.

To Marks family: This summer my daughter had the opportunity to work at Camp Wawbeek as a counselor. It was a life changing experience for her. She could not mention names, but she shared many stories about the campers she assisted. She had an incredible story about a man she met that left a lasting impression with her. She spoke of his wit, his courage, his independence and his incredible ability to communicate so well with everyone, despite the obvious barriers that made it challenging. He also had the ability to make everyone around him laugh. Today I learned the name of that camper as she shared her sorrow with me—it was Mark. He touched the lives of so many. My heart aches for the grief you are experiencing, along with all the unknowns. I pray for your comfort during this very difficult time.
