Angela Krause

Krause, Angela "Sis" STEVENS POINT - Angela "Sis" Krause, age 104, passed away on January 1, 2010 in Stevens Point WI, with her only surviving child, Rae Dyb, at her side. Angela, who lived at Harmony Village Assisted Living Center, was born on March 10, 1905, in Soldiers Grove WI, the second child of Frederick and Alvina (Kasparek) Barney. Her father was a Dentist, and Angela worked cleaning in his office as a child. Her mother died in 1907, and her father with three young girls, Frances (Babe), Angela, and Clara, married her mother's sister, Anastasia Kasparek, in 1910. The family moved from Soldiers Grove to Montana, to homestead, and settled in Roy, where her father became Postmaster. The family grew to five as two boys, Frederick and John Clayton, were born. When her father died in 1913, the family returned to the Soldiers Grove area, settling in Prairie du Chien, where they were raised by her stepmother. Angela graduated from Prairie du Chien High School and went to the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Angela married Julius J. Gust on March 7, 1925, in Madison and raised six children, Peggy, Rae, Virginia, Larry, Judy, and Steve. Angela went to work for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture with the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and during World War II, she took a part time job with R.M.R, a subsidiary of Rayovac, which made batteries for walkie-talkies. Her husband Julius died in 1949, and on December 22, 1951, she married Orville Krause, who also worked for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. They moved to Washington D.C., and she worked for the Library of Congress for 20 years before retiring. After retiring, they returned to Madison, and did a lot of traveling around the world, visiting Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, Germany, also England, and on her 90th birthday she rode the Bullet Train in Japan. After Orville died in December 2002, she remained in her home in Madison, with help from her daughter, Rae Dyb, her only surviving child, for six years before moving to Stevens Point. Angela was a member of Parkside Presbyterian Church for more than 75 years, continuing her membership even when in Washington D.C. She was also a member of Amaranth and the White Shrine for many years. Angela enjoyed cross-stitching, was a great fan of the Chicago Cubs and of Brett Favre, and the Green Bay Packers. Angela is survived by her daughter Rae Dyb, Stevens Point, her daughter in law, Dolores Gust, Madison, and over 100 direct descendants. She was preceded in death in addition to her husbands, by three daughters, Margarette (Peggy) Hollingsworth, Virginia Bormann, Julia (Judy) Dilley; two sons Laurence (Larry) Gust and Stephen (Steve) Gust; two sisters, Clara Herlache, and Frances (Babe) Cooper, and two brothers Frederick Barney, and John Clayton Barney. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Jan.7, 2010. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Portage County Hospice or Harmony Assisted Living .
