Castagna, AnnaMADISON - Anna Castagna, age 95, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009. She was born on June 25, 1914, in Madison, the daughter of Frank and Josephine Loniello. She married Vincent Castagna on Oct. 4, 1930, in Madison. Vincent and Anna owned and operated the Uptown Shoe Repair at 118 W. Mifflin St. for more than 20 years. She also worked at the Bob White Candy Company for many years, until her retirement. Anna was a selfless mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was entirely devoted to the care and well being of her family. She led an active life with cooking, baking, sewing, gardening and always being there to help and aid her family. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, movies and watching the Packers. Anna is survived by her daughter, Teresa Northrup, of Madison;son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Kristine Castagna of Sun Prairie;daughter-in-law, Genny Castagna of Deerfield;twelve grandchildren, James Northrup, Jeff Northrup, Linda (George) Christensen, Laura Northrup, Barry (Loretta) Northrup, Sheryl (Gary) Tietz, Sandi (Glenn) Liegel, Ann (Chuck) Derenne, Pam (Dan) Bauhs, Tim (Carmen) Castagna, Tony Castagna and John (Deborah) Castagna; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vincent; son, Joseph; brothers, Cecil, Jack, Frank, Russell, Sam, John, Joseph and Emmanuel; and sisters, Virginia Fiore and Mary Brashi. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. The family wishes to thank the staff at Swanton House and HospiceCare for all of their care of Anna, and special thanks to Madga for her guidance and support during her illness.
