Helen Payne

Payne, Helen J. MADISON/APPLETON-Helen J. Payne, age 85, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009. She was the youngest of seven children, born June 29, 1924, in Edgerton, to John and Hilda (Adolphson) Cruse. Helen and her husband, Carl, owned the C & P Shopping Center, a longtime fixture on Madison's East side. She was a member of Eastern Star and The Christian Science Church. Helen enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her brother, John Cruse of Edgerton; she is survived by four children, Roger (Yvonne) Payne of Swansea, Ill., Emily (Joe) Ilg of Neenah, Joann (James) Hanaway of Madison and Phyllis (Donald) Bultman of Madison; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; and siblings, Mildred Olson, Grace Anderson, Lorraine Cruse, Margaret Lien and Charles Cruse. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, with Bill Kilgour presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Cemetery: Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
