Obituary

Boyer, Edward J. MADISON-Edward J. Boyer, age 86, of Madison, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, after a short battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 31, 1923, in Park Falls, the son of John and Annabelle (Eva) Boyer. Edward graduated from Phillips High School in 1940. He married Anita Peterson on Dec. 4, 1943, in Madison. Edward enlisted in the Army Air Corps (Air Force) in December 1943 and was stationed in Fort Sheridan, Ill., Biloxi, Miss., and Texas A&M. Following navigation training, he was commissioned as an Air Force lieutenant. Edward earned a B.S. degree from the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy in 1948. He served in the Air Force Reserve until 1955. Edward was employed by Rennebohm's, St. Mary's Hospital, and Edgerton Hospital. He volunteered many hours with the VA Hospital, the American Legion Post 501 Firing Squad, and the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard 4th Degree. Edward was an active member of the U.S. Power Squadron and served as district commander of District 10 from 1984 until 1985. He achieved the rank of senior navigator and taught this skill to many others. Edward enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, photography, travel, carpentry and volunteering. He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church for more than 40 years. Edward was a generous, gentle, and caring soul. His greatest pride and joy was his family. Edward is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anita; daughters, Mary Boyer (Rob) Phillips and Beth Fryk; son, John; two grandsons, Evan and Marc Rortvedt;two granddaughters, Ashley and Amy Fryk; a great-grandson, Landon; as well as many relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PATRICKS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 E. Main St., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, with Monsignor Kevin Holmes presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to express sympathy with a memorial may wish to consider HospiceCare Inc. The family would like to thank Dr. John Phelan, Dr. John Snider, St. Mary's Pacemaker and Heart Failure Clinics for their care, which allowed Edward to remain with us for several extra years. Thank you to Oak Park Assisted Living for their care and compassion. Cemetery: Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation: Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PATRICKS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 E.
