Ilfrida Tesloff

Tesloff, Ilfrida JeanMADISON-Ilfrida Jean Tesloff, age 96, died peacefully on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at St. Marys Care Center, where she had been a long time resident. Jean was born in Superior, on July 22, 1913, the daughter of Alidor and Adronie Huyghe, and spent her youth in Superior. After graduation, she joined the convent and took vows in the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Medaille in Crookston, Minn., taking the name Sister Jean Berchmans Huyghe. Jean was a devout Catholic and taught at parish schools, and also traveled to France to teach. She told wonderful stories about her former pupils, and sharing her love of learning and music. Jean married John Tesloff on Aug. 5, 1946, at S.S. Anthony and Margaret Church in Superior, and they were happily married for more than 40 years. They settled in the Mauston area, where John worked with the National Guard. After Johns death in 1987, Jean moved to Madison, where she was active at Saint Raphaels. Jean lived the last few years at St. Marys Care Center, where she received wonderful care and had many friends among the staff and other residents. Jean was a quiet, self-effacing woman of great strength and immovable faith. Her sense of humor was wry and her good nature ever present. A memorial service will be held in January.
