Obituary

Brandt, Josephine "Jo" MONONA/MADISON-Josephine "Jo" Brandt passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009. She was born in Waunakee, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Esser) Acker. Jo married Attorney Albert E. Brandt in 1940. During her more active life, she was very civic minded. Jo did volunteer work at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, the Dean House, St. Mary's Hospital, and Red Cross. She also worked as an election official at the polls for 48 years, was on the board of directors of the Blackhawk Girl Scouts and was a scout leader during her daughters scout years. She lived in Monona for 45 years and was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Jo was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Dane County Bar Women's Auxiliary, Madison Catholic Women's Club, Madison Civics Club, Madison Curling Club and Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed curling, golfing, bowling and bridge. Jo was an enthusiastic traveler and attended many Elderhostel classes. Jo is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Voy) Althaus of Fredericksburg, Texas; a son, Richard (Lisa) Brandt of Rancho Murieta, Calif.; step-daughter, Sue (James) Bergmann of Doraville, Ga.; brother, James (Leona) Acker of Sun City, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Brandt and Wilfred Sanborn; her parents; a daughter, Mary Catherine Brandt; brothers, Harry and George; sisters, Ann Donnell and Rose Wessel; sisters-in-law, Susan Acker and Margaret Acker; and brothers-in-law, Fred Wessel and Charles Donnell. Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Oakwood Association, American Heart Association or Olbrich Botanical Gardens. Service: A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, with Father John Meinholz presiding

I would like to express my sympathy to all of you. She was quite a lady! The last time I saw her was at my Mother's wake. And it was a very short visit because there was a long line behind her. I will not be able to come to the Memorial, but will be keeping her in my prayers. God Bless. Karon
