Jean Parks

Parks, Jean E. COTTAGE GROVE - Jean E. (Ione) Parks, age 79, of Cottage Grove passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009. She was born on March 17, 1930 in Madison, the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Thorton) Shelhamer. Jean graduated from Sun Prairie High School. She was united in marriage to George L. Parks, Sr. on May 13, 1950 at St. Raphael Cathedral in Madison. She was a homemaker, raising four children, until 1980 when she received her degree as a medical lab technician. She worked as a lab technician for 10 years at Central Center. She was a volunteer at Deer-Grove EMS where she was the first registered EMT. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, and dancing with George. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cottage Grove where she was a music director and provided altar flowers. Jean is survived by her husband; George Sr., Cottage Grove, children; Jeanne (Raymond) Straub, Sebring, Fla., Kathleen (Dave) Dayton, Saukville, George (Debra) Parks, Jr., Cottage Grove, and Daniel Parks, Gallatin, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Edith Anderson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Loren. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 434 N. Main Street, Cottage Grove, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, with the Msgr. Raymond Kertz officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Inurnment will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
