Irma Kress

Kress, Irma K. MONONA-Irma K. Kress, age 96, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Karmenta Nursing Home. She and her husband had prayed together just that day and finished with the words, "Jesus, I love you." Irma was born on Nov. 13, 1913, in Stetsonville, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Hollmann) Pfaff. She married Francis Kress, just before the war,on July 29, 1941, in Stetsonville. Irma enjoyed gardening, making quilts, craftwork, music, and baking. She was a talented homemaker. Irma taught grade school in a one-room schoolhouse and at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. After retiring, she volunteered at the Monona Public Library for storytime, St. Mary's Hospital, and Luke House. Irma was very active with the Monona Senior Center in their chorus and band. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Francis; children, Clare (Robert) Larsen, Philip (Nancy), Susanne (Ronald) Nelson, and Marian(David) Hinrichs; grandchildren, Ted, Libby (Steve), Andy, Jeremy (Jen), Eric, Jesi, Chris (Sally), and Tim; six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Leona Pfaff. Irma was preceded in death by three sisters.A Mass of Christian Burialwill be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield Street, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, with Father John Meinholz presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary School.
