Day, Richard D.
MADISON-Richard D. Day, age 78, of Madison, died on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at the HospiceCare Center. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the Signal Battalion unit. Richard's son, Steven served with the U. S. Air Force and grandson, Charles L. Hartley with the U. S. Army during the Desert Storm era. Major Hartley still serves his country with the Wisconsin National Guard. Richard was a neon sign fabricator, retiring from C. A. Grant & Sons. He was a member of Electrical Union 159. Richard is survived by his wife, Bertha (Flom) Day; six children, Helaine (Day) Hartley, Duane (Deborah) Day, Catherine (Neil) Coppinger, Cynthia (James) Hilmershausen, Robert (Marge) Day, and Steven (Mary) Day; nine grandchildren, Charles (Tracey) Hartley, Daniel Day, Aaron Day, Ethan Day, Andrew Day, Makenna Parish Day, Nicole Coppinger, Madison Day, and Kaylee Day; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Blake and Blair Hartley; a sister, Lorian (Raymond) Wirsbinski; brothers-in-law, Theodore Femrite and Ronald Hetzler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Arnold and Effie (Wesenberg) Day; sisters, Suzanne Hetzler and Betty Femrite; and brother, William. Funeral Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors conducted. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children's Hospital and The Disabled Veterans of America are suggested. A special thanks goes out to the staff of St. Mary's and HospiceCare for their respectful, loving care.
