Runey, Chester Merlin
MADISON-Chester Merlin "Mer" Runey, age 84, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009. He was born on June 4, 1925, in Brooklyn, the son of Ethel and Stanley Runey. Chester served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He married Georgia Schlotthauer on Oct. 17, 1949. Chester worked for Texaco until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed camping, collecting coins, fishing, road trips, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild, Michael. Chester is survived by his children, Lawrence Runey, Gail Olson, Joyce Runey, and Sandra Runey; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ronald) Halterman-Brown, Joshua Olson and Christopher Olson; great-grandson, Michael Halterman-Brown;brothers, Clarence Runey and Gary Runey;a sister, Eileen Fix; sister-in-law, Eleanor Runey;and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia in 2006; son-in-law, Kenneth Olson in 2005; and siblings, Joseph Runey, Harriet Person, Russell Runey and Florabell Wright.Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in Chester's name for a fund to be established.
