Charles Navratil

Photo/FlagNavratil, Charles "Chuck"MADISON - Charles "Chuck" Navratil, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at home with his family present. He was born on Sept. 6, 1926, in Milwaukee, the son of Charles Sr. and Mary (Victor) Navratil. Chuck served in the U.S. Navy during World War II teaching electronics. He began his lifelong career at Ray-O-Vac in 1950, where he met his future wife, Ruth Harbort. Chuck and Ruth were married on Feb. 14, 1953. He retired from Ray-O-Vac in 1991. Chuck was an avid golfer and tennis player. He volunteered at East Madison/Monona Coalition of the Aging and Senior Day Center, where he was very instrumental in establishing the facility for the Senior Day Center. Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Chuck is survived by his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Nancy (Don) Alexejun of Green Bay, Susan ( Mike) Altendorf of Batavia, Ill. and Gail Herbel of Cottage Grove; six grandchildren, Brad (Stacy), Matt, Andrea, Steven, Tim and Casey; and sisiter-in-law, Dorothy Harbort. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Huevel presiding. Inurnment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Tuesday, and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
