Obituary

MIDDLETON-Mary Virginia Fox, age 89, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. Mary, who was nicknamed Ginger, was born on November 17, 1919, in Richmond, VA., the daughter of George Henry and Leila Virginia(Merell) Foster. She graduated from Northwestern University and became an accomplished author, publishing over 60 books. Her memberships include the National League of American PEN Women, where she helped spearhead the Wisconsin branch; to the American Society of Journalists and Authors; and to the Council for Wisconsin Writers, where she served as Board Member. She was also a member of Alpha Phi, PEO and the Asbury United Methodist Church. Mary received the Governor's Commendation for Lifetime Literary Achievement on October 10, 2007. She was united in marriage to Richard Earl Fox and he preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Phillip R. (Mary) Fox of Montello, Thomas G. (Jayne) Fox of Tomahawk, William E. Fox of Rio; a sister, Dr. Leila M. Foster of Evanston, IL.; seven grandchildren, Kathleen V. Fox of Middleton, Robert P. (Eda) Fox of Lake Mary, FL., Kimberly A. (Jason) Frederick of Alto, MI., Andrea L.(Jesse) Nelson of De Forest , Timothy R. (Claudia) Fox of Miami, FL., Coleman T. (Lynn) Fox of Kunkletown, PA., Chelsea L. (Wesley) Rockhold of Alexandria, VA.; five great-grandchildren, Natalie V. Nelson, Taner L. Fox, Ella Rose Frederick, Coleman T. Fox, II and Logan R. Rockhold. In addition to her husband, Richard E. Fox, Mary was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave, Middleton at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009 with the Reverend Ty Lacey Sims Hines presiding. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm. at the funeral home. Friends may also call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Ginger was the shining light of our neighborhood. Her departure makes this a very sad day and she'll be greatly missed by many.
