Beatrice Martig

MIDDLETON-Beatrice passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2009 due to complications with asthma and pneumonia. She was born in Madison, on August 19, 1927, daughter of Ernest and Esther Haensgen.Betty went to East High School in Madison and graduated in 1945. She worked at the telephone company, Ohio Chemical Company, the National Guardian Life, and other secretarial jobs. She married Norbert Martig in 1951 and settled in Madison, where they started their family.Betty lived a very active life and participated in golf, bowling, dancing and gardening. Betty received support and made wonderful friends thanks to the Kayra organization. She enjoyed going to shows and many other social activities.She was preceded in death by her husband Norbert and two brothers, David and Ernest. Surviving Beatrice are loving family members including her sister Shirley (Jim) Pike as well as her very dear friend and companion Sanford \"Sandy\" Anderson. Also missing Betty are her four children; Mike (Marge) Martig, Susan (Bruce) Padley, Brian (Diane) Martig, and Steve (Wendy) Martig, all living in the Dane County area. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.She was a wonderful friend and mother. As a devoted member of St. Bernard\'s Catholic Church, she drew much strength from her faith. Betty was always kind and generous, patient and loving. A great friend! \"Betts\" will be greatly missed by all.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD\'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 24, 2009 with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Madison. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME,7435 University Ave., Middleton. Friends may also call on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church.Special thanks to the Middleton EMS and Police Dept., and to the 5th floor staff of ICU at St. Mary\'s Hospital.
