Mary Gessler

MADISON-Mary Martha (Angus) Gessler, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Residence in Fitchburg surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on October 30, 1922 in Middleton. She was the seventh of eight children born to Robert and Florence (Engelkee) Angus. She graduated from Middleton High School ion 1940. On March 3, 1941 she eloped with Vernon Gessler to Dubuque, Iowa. They celebrated 68 years of marriage this year. After devoting 30 years at home raising their family, Mary went to work at the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. She truly enjoyed this position for 15 years. Mary is survived by her husband, Vernon; daughters Maureen (Thomas) Reimers, Vicki Wells, Mary Jo (Kate Thom) Gessler; and sons James (Jill) Gessler and Richard (Heather) Gessler. She is further survived by five grandchildren, Amy and Jessica Wells, Debra and Michael (special friend, Jenna) Reimers, and Nicole Mary Gessler; a sister Alyce Curran; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold and Robert Angus; sisters Ivy Haggott, Olive Genin, Florence Pick and Jeanne Curley. A family memorial service at the HospiceCare Center Chapel is being planned with private burial at Middleton Junction Cemetery. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at Hospice for their guidance and support, especially her in-home team (Tommye, Kristin and Annette).
