Obituary

MADISON-Eunice A. Altenburg, age 94, of Madison, went home to our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Rest Haven Health Care Center. She was born on Aug. 30, 1915, in Madison, the daughter of Erwin and Anna (Lerdahl) Peterson. Eunice attended Bethany Lutheran College. She married Reinhart J. Altenburg. Eunice worked for UW-Madison in food service for many years. She was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, involved in Miriam Circle, Ladies Aid, and working school lunch programs. Eunice loved to travel, and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very proud that she passed on her Christian faith to her family. Eunice had a contagious laugh and enjoyed life. She always said that she was a \"tough old bird.\" Eunice was blessed with and survived by four children, Carol (Lyle) Lange, Richard Altenburg, Sandy Gullick-Altenburg, and Donna (John) Dollard; 13 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Eldon Peterson. Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, with the Rev. Bernt Tweit and Pastor Lyle Lange presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Deepest gratitude to the staff at Rest Haven Health Care Center and her caregiver while at home, Cristina Wood, for the loving care they gave Eunice. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Visitation: Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Service: Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009.

As much as Grandma will be missed here on earth, we can be thankful that she is in no more pain and experiencing no more sadness. She is seeing the most awesome and awe-filled scene now and into eternity. I look forward to the time I can join Grandma in heaven praising our Savior.
