Lyla Smith

STOUGHTON - Lyla C. Smith, age 89, of Stoughton, passed away on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009. She was born on Jan. 11, 1920, in Sydney, Australia, the daughter of Herbert and Catherine (OConnor) Weller. Lyla married Douglas Smith on June 6, 1944, in McKay, Australia. She worked as a secretary for Cornell Papermill and later for Simplicity in Port Washington. Lyla is survived by her children, Susan (Tom Hanlon) Milewski of Red Bank, N. J., Kent Smith of Marshall, Dennis Smith of Cornell, and Jennifer (Paul) Bierdz of Seymour; grandchildren, Nathan Bierdz, Nicholas Milewski, Kay Bierdz, and Abigail Mandel; and a great-grandson, Noah Milewski. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Jack, Bruce, Keith and Sidney Weller. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL HOME, Highway 51 North at Jackson St., Stoughton, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, with Monsignor Gerard Healy presiding.
