Harbort, Aletta E.
MONONA/STOUGHTON-Aletta "Polly" Harbort, age 91, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Nazareth House in Stoughton. She was born on Dec. 30, 1917, in DeForest, the daughter of Peter and Nettie (Njois) Wangsness. Aletta was raised on a farm in DeForest. She worked for Red Dot Foods and UW Hospital. After retiring from UW Hospital, Aletta did demos at Sentry Foods Hilldale. She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Monona. Aletta had many interests, including playing guitar and singing, playing cards, dancing and gardening. She was at her best in the kitchen and was noted for making lefse and many other Norwegian foods. Aletta was a very generous caregiver to family and friends. She cared for two brothers, a sister, and a dear friend prior to their deaths. Aletta is survived by a son, Lyle (Judy) Harbort of Monona; a daughter, Carol (George) Parham of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Karen Harbort of Deerfield; six grandchildren, Kelley Harbort of Monona, Vickie (Tom) Groth of Monona, Tim, Mike, and Greg (Jean) Harbort, all of Deerfield, and Stacy Simon of Florida; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Wrend, Nathan and Emily Groth, and Dylan Simon; and a sister, Florence (Vern) Minor. She was preceded in death by a son, Earl Harbort of Deerfield; grandson, U. S. Marine SSGT Chad Simon of Monona; her parents; sisters, Irene Ellingson, Alice Larson and Gladys Johnson; and four brothers, Olin, Clarence, Lawrence and Russell Wangsness. Funeral services for Aletta will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, with the Rev. Tim Hansen presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to HospiceCare Inc. The family would like to thank Nazareth House and HospiceCare for their kindness to Aletta and her family during this difficult time.
