Obituary
MADISON-Lois M. Pluckhan, age 85, passed away on Tuesday July 14, 2009 at her home. She was born on February 2, 1924, in Watertown, the daughter of Alvin H. And Verona (Rogler) Pluckhan. Lois graduated from Juneau High School in 1942 as salutatorian of her class. She was graduated from the Groves-Barnhart School for Secretaries, where she took legal and medical secretarial courses. She accepted a position as the Jackson Clinic in Madison in 1946, and was secretary to the head of Jackson Clinic until 1976. In 1953 Lois organized the Dane County Medical Assistants Society and served as its' first President. She and Alice Bundy of Milwaukee co-founded the Wisconsin State Medical Assistants Society in 1955. Lois remained an active and vital member of these associations throughout her life. In 2005 Lois' dear and longtime friend, Mary E. Aiken of Onalaska, started a scholarship in Lois' name for the Medical Assistants Program at Madison Area Technical College. She is survived by her brother, Frederick J. Pluckhahn and his wife Nancy, of Madison, GA, five nieces and nephews, Susan and Felix Vizurraga of Watkinsville, GA, Jill and Mat Morgan of Decatur, GA, Scott Pluckhahn and Keith Crosby of Decatur, GA, Michael Pluckhahn of Decatur, GA; three great nieces and nephews, Joseph, Chris and Annie Vizurraga of Watkinsville, GA. and life long friend Mary Aiken of Onalaska. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Margaret Pluckhan of Denver, CO. Memorial services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Madison at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009, with the Reverend Laura Sutherland presiding. Interment will be in Juneau, Wisconsin. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Please consider contributing a gift to the MATC Foundation, Lois Pluckhan Scholarship Fund.
