Obituary
MADISON-Genevieve "Jennie" Kerl, age 83, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. She was born on October 3, 1925 to Arthur and Elsie (Severson) Pribbenow, and grew up in North Leeds, where she attended a one room school house and helped on the family farm. Later, she met Herman Kerl and they were married on September 23, 1950.Jennie loved working with food and people. Some of her favorite times were cooking for her family on holidays and at the family cabin. She and Herman managed the Ivy Inn Restaurant in the 70s, and then owned Club Sunset in Lodi from 1975 until 1988. After retirement, she and Herman spent much of their time growing vegetables for their stand at the Hilldale farmer's market. A naturally social person, she enjoyed close relationships with her neighbors and was a proud member of Midvale Lutheran Church, Eastern Star in Lodi and the Madison Eagles Club. In her leisure, she loved to read and collect books and solve word puzzles. She also enjoyed winters in Florida with Herman since their retirement. Jennie was a woman of many stories and many of these stories dealt with her family, whom she loved more than anything. She was proud of her family, and they will miss her dearly.Jennie is survived by her husband, Herman; five children, Art Kerl (Barb Meyers), Mary (George) Lulling, Bob (Nancy) Kerl, Betty (Dick) Bauhs and April (Mark) Hochstein; four grandsons, Robert Lulling, Paul (Crystal) Lulling, Dick Bauhs (Emily Camfield), and Brian Bauhs; a sister Violet Lafler, a brother Maynard Pribbenow (Diane Hoard), brother-in-law Robert (Melissa) Kerl and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Elsie Pribbenow, a sister Irene Spoehr, sister-in-law Florence Thompson, brothers-in-law Willis Thompson, Butch Knapton, Harold Lafler, and Clarence Spoehr.Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 with the Reverend Bruce Loewenhagen presiding.
