Obituary

Sterud, Arthur L.MADISON-Arthur L. Sterud, age 91, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at his home in Waunakee Manor. He was born on June 7, 1918, in Madison, the son of Tom and Ellen (Teigen) Sterud. Arthur served in the Army as a Corporal during World War II. He married Carol Johnson, on Feb. 22, 1947 in Madison, and lived on Moland Street for 57 years in a house he and Carol had built. They enjoyed traveling, and visited 47 of the states. Arthur worked for 29 years at Gisholt as a machine operator, and also for 12 years at MATC in the book store. He was an avid reader, enjoyed woodworking, and gardening. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Arthur genuinely loved and cared for his family. He is survived by his son, William (Lynn) Sterud; daughter, Mary (James) Smith; three grandsons, Darren Sterud, Scott Smith, and Karl Smith. Arthur was preceded in death by her parents; his wife, Carol; and a sister, Caroline Oman. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Ruppenthal presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, WI 53704. A special thank you to everyone at Waunakee Manor for their wonderful care of Arthur.
