James Overton

Overton, James A. OREGON/PORTAGE-James A. Overton, age 96, of Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Skaalen Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Rennselaer, Ind. Jim married Evelyn Kinney on Dec. 27, 1958, in Madison. He was employed at Oscar Mayer for 27 years. After retirement, Jim worked part-time at Piggly Wiggly in Portage until age 92. He was a member of Doric Masonic Lodge No. 0356, Eastern Star, Starlight Chapter of Madison, and Zor Shrine Arab Patrol and Camel Patrol. Jim had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing cribbage with Evie every morning. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Overton of Oregon; a son, Phillip (Carol) Overton of Madison; daughters, Sandra Holman of Littleton, Colo., Kathleen (Gary) Boebel of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Barbara Overton of Madison; step daughter, Pam (Gary) Mather of Oregon; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Velzora Sanders of Fullerton, Calif., and Karen (Lawson) Wailing of Lady Lake, Fla. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Max Overton; and a sister, Ella Lichte. Funeral services will be held at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 172 N. Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009, with the Rev. Clara Thompson presiding. Burial will be at Lower McFarland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009.
