Obituary

Porter, James Spencer MONONA-James Spencer Porter, age 61, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009. He was born on March 19, 1948, in Stoughton, the son of John Spencer and Lorraine (Nesbit) Porter. Jim worked for the Dane County Highway Department for almost 20 years and he absolutely loved his job. Jim was an avid Packers fan and enjoyed playing cards at Bennett's every week. One of Jims favorite places to be was on the "Island", where he could relax and enjoy boating, fishing, and caring for the forest. Jim loved gardening, searching for treasures at yard/garage sales, and had an intense fondness for roadside artifacts. (Roadkill!) He is survived by two children, Jessi (Porter) Johnson and Joel Porter; two granddaughters, Olivia and Greta; stepmother, Dolores Porter; siblings, Larry Porter, Gloria Beck, Steve (Jackie) Porter, Tom Porter, Sally Karns, and Tim (Teresa) Porter; nephews, Nicholas, Sean, Scott, J. T. and Timmy; nieces, Heather, Sherri, and Tara; great-nieces and great-nephews, Meghan, Tierra, Jason and Jennifer; and many other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Randall; brother-in-law, John Beck; and sister-in-law, Sharon Porter. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009. Jim, your sense of humor and constant generosity touched the lives of everyone you knew. You will be greatly missed. The family asks that everyone please move over and slow down in construction zones. Visitation: A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009.
