Christenson, Norman A. WAUNAKEE-Norman A. Christenson, age 93, of Waunakee, died on Monday, May 4, 2009, at Waunakee Manor. He was born on Sept. 27, 1915, in McFarland, the son of Hans and Anna (Williamson) Christenson. Norm graduated from Madison East High School in 1935. He was inducted into the military service in May 1941, serving in the South Pacific until his discharge in November 1945. In April 1946, Norm married Shirley Vaars. She preceded him in death in August 1976. On his return from the service, he served a five year apprenticeship to become a plumber. Norm worked as a plumber until his retirement in 1981. He married Dorothy (Tietje) Schroeder in September 1977. Norm enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and gardening. After his retirement, his hobby was working with stained glass and woodworking. Norm was a member of the East Side Business Mens Association, Madison Elks No. 410, and former member of VFW Post No. 7591. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son-in-law, John Flick; granddaughters, Kristi (Tom) Manus, and Kelli (Robert) Heaney; grandson, Mark (Erica) Christenson; great-grandsons, Timothy Manus, and Brody and Owen Christenson; two stepsons, Jack (Trudy) Schroeder, and Rick (Joanne) Schroeder; three step grandchildren, Kelly (Albert) Miramontes, Lindsay (Joe) Schroeder Treichel, and Brett Schroeder (fiancee, Gina Scheraldi); three step great-grandchildren, Alexis and Tyler Miramontes, and Summitt Treichel; brother-in-law, James Hill; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Norm was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; son, Tim; daughter, Nancy Flick; grandson, Eric Christenson; a brother, Oswald; and two sisters, Lillian Wagner and Lucille Hill. Funeral services will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009, with the Rev. John Ruppenthal presiding, with military rites to follow. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will be at McFarland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
