Nancy Miller

Miller, Nancy J. MONONA-Nancy J. Miller, born on Nov. 15, 1936, passed away peacefully at HospiceCare, the early morning of Sunday, April 5, 2009, succumbing to lung cancer. She was born Nancy Jean Adkison, in Madison, to Clifford and Rosina Adkison. Nancy grew up on Farwell St. and graduated from Madison East High School in 1954. Nancy was doing clerical work when she met car salesman, Art Miller. They married on New Years Eve 1958 and bought a house in Monona in 1961. Nancy was a devoted mother to her three children, while also running the office of the Petrolane Gas Company for more than 20 years. She saw to it that her kids were involved in activities ranging from athletics to the arts, and she continued a rich social life among family, close friends and neighbors. Nancy enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, family vacations to northern Wisconsin, plus attending Badger games and dining out with her husband Art, who passed away in 2005. She is survived by her sons, Randy (Linda) Miller of Lodi, and David (Monica Piper) Miller of Madison; daughter, Marcy (Jon) Brandt of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Tyler, Cassandra, Oona, Otto, Dana and Matthew; her sister, Carolyn (Don) Doran of Madison; sister-in-law, Alyce Adkison; brother-in-law, Merel Freiman; and several nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Ruth Freiman; and a brother, Clifford Jr. Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009, with the Rev. Mark Bartels presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
