Obituary

Steinhofer, William C. MADISON-William C. Steinhofer, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. He was born on Jan. 14, 1926, in Madison, to Hulda (Kahl) and Clarence Steinhofer. Bill served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous from October 1961 until the time of his death. Bill served as a delegate of the Wisconsin chapter and was the director of Hope Haven, a Catholic social service facility, for 27 years, and continued to help hundreds of alcoholics to recovery. He was a loyal member of the Eastside Alano Club for 48 years. Bill enjoyed the camaraderie with fellow members and had a love of dancing, playing cards, golfing, and sharing his life experiences at AA conventions throughout Wisconsin. He always saw the bright side and never spoke a bad word about anyone, always seeing the good in people. Bill was a poet, teacher, philosopher, and inspirational role model of how to live your life. He sponsored hundreds of people over his life span. Of all of the people Bill helped, he always said they helped him, more than he helped them. Bill was well respected, loved and admired by all who knew him. He had a way with words, and always had a good story to tell and a willing audience to listen. Bill is survived by a brother, Kenneth (Mary) Steinhofer of Madison; a sister, Phyllis (Kenneth) Kitowski of Monona; many nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends at Eastside Alano Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gordon, Robert and Douglas; and a sister, Beverly Roberts.
