Carlos Bast

MADISON-Carlos F. T. Bast, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. He was born on Jan. 6, 1938, in Big Flats, the son of Louis and Mildred (Kitlinger) Bast. Carlos served in the U. S. Army and the Army Reserves, retiring after 20 years of service. He worked for the U. S. Postal Service for more than 28 years and enjoyed playing Santa for them. Carlos enjoyed his grandkids, had a great sense of humor and was good-natured, always willing to take the time to help people. He loved his pets. Carlos was a member of the Eagles Club, lifelong member of VFW Post No. 7591, and American Legion Post No. 501. He is survived by his children, Pete Bast, Michele Bast, Ray (Lisa) Bast, and Penny (Steve) Davis; grandchildren, Adam, Wendi, Tim, Bradley, Samantha, and Leaura; mother of his children, Mary Bast; foster mother, Bea Showers; three step children, Lori, Linda (Gary) Elmore, and Larry; step grandson, Alex; two brothers, Carl and Carson; a sister, Carol; foster brother, Eddie Showers; and foster sister, Sandy (Bill) Anderson. Carlos was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; foster father, Ray Showers; and a sister, Carolyn. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2009, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
