Obituary

Paul, George D. MONONA-George D. Paul, beloved husband of Wilma Noot Paul, was born on June 26, 1923, in Ironwood, Mich., to George and Edith Paul, and went to his Lord with radiance and great peace on Sunday, April 19, 2009, after a conversation with his Maker. This conquering pain warrior was weary and ready to hang up his bow. A graduate of J. E. Murphy High School in Hurley, he completed just one semester at UW-Madison before enlisting in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He flew the PT-19 primary trainer, BT-13 basic trainer, UC-78 advanced training and UC-78s and B-25 as an instructor pilot. George was stationed at Pampa, Texas and Frederick, Okla. as a pilot instructor and had been ordered to B-29s when the war ended. He called it "a privilege to fly those great birds for my country." George married his first wife, Annette, when he was stationed in Texas in 1945. She preceded him in death in January 1979. He earned a B.S. degree from UW-Madison in 1950. They had four children, Donna (Jess) Martinez of Waukesha, Michael (Diana) of Cabot, Ark., Gary of Middleton, and Randy (Lydia) of Monona. Randy passed away in 2007. George and Wilma were married in November 1979, and he was blessed to help raise a second family, Don (Nicole) Noot Jr. of Houston, Texas, Nancy (Paul) Schmelzer of Monona, Dan (Sheri) Noot of Toronto, Canada, Doug Noot of Madison, David (Elaine) Noot of Boise, Idaho. He leaves a wonderful legacy of faith and loving kindness to all his children, 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He lost his grandson, Gabriel Martinez in 2007. George Paul ran three successful businesses over four decades in Madison: Paul-Weaver Janitorial Service, Wisco-99, and Paul Petroleum Products before owning and managing rental properties. All who met him knew his gentleness, good humor and strength of character. Respect for hard work was instilled in his family also. He greatly enjoyed collecting and driving classic cars, his model train collection, walking in Gods beautiful creation, and deep involvement with his Lord and Savior. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Contributions in George D. Pauls memory may be made to Crossroads Church, 3815 S. Dutch Mill Road, Madison, WI 53718 or to Salvation Army-Madison. No flowers, please. Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Centers 5203 Monona Drive (608) 221-5420 www.gundersonfh.com
