Obituary
Haas, Lawrence F. OREGON Lawrence F. Haas, age 74 of Oregon, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, due to complications from a blood disorder. Lawrence was born in Roxbury, on Aug. 18, 1934, the son of the late Norbert and Adelia (Fass) Haas. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Sauk City High School. He married his high-school sweetheart, Betty Jean Leykauf on May 4, 1957, and they were married for 45 years. The two of them started their life together in Oberammergau, Germany, where Lawrence served in the U.S. Army. Lawrence resided in Oregon for the past 35 years. He was a member of Holy Mother of Consolation Church in Oregon and was a member of the Teamsters Union for 30 years while he worked as a truck driver for Motor Transport and Advance Transportation. He retired at the age of 59 to have more time for family and travel. Lawrences biggest love was his wife, children, and grandchildren. A wonderful husband, father, and grandpa, his favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren and attending their school and sporting events and just simply playing catch with them in the backyard. Lawrence enjoyed being on the boat, fishing, and turkey hunting. He loved traveling and his ventures included visiting one of his daughters and her family at their home in North Dakota where he enjoyed wagon rides pulled by work horses, livestock auctions, and the Old West. Other travels led him around the rest of the U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska, and overseas to Europe and Asia. Lawrence enjoyed the tours he took to Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada, and the East Coast. Lawrence enjoyed working in his yard and keeping up with his house and vehicles. He loved fixing and repairing anything and everything in his trusty garage with every tool imaginable. He valued sitting on his deck enjoying the sun and watching the birds. Lawrence is survived by his three children, Tammy (Greg) Smith of Bismarck, N.D., Tim Haas (Barb Smith) of Stoughton and Michelle (Todd) Dosher of Oregon; six grandchildren, Marty, Melanie, Nicholas, Ryan, Maxwell, and Simon; two brothers, Herbert (Fran) of Oregon and Roman (Charlotte) of Roxbury; and his sister, Joan Sansone of Madison. Lawrence is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his brother, Victor, and his sisters, Arlene DuCharme and Dorothy Fuchs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St, Oregon with Father Bill Connell presiding.
