Cassidy, Catherine A. "Kate" MADISON-Catherine A. "Kate" Cassidy, age 86, died on Sunday, April 12, 2009, following an illness. She was born on June 13, 1922, in Dodgeville, to Elmore E. and Rosemary (Paradis) Godfrey. Kate attended Mineral Point schools. She married Robert E. Cassidy on June 29, 1946, at St. Pauls Church in Mineral Point. They moved to Verona, then Madison and enjoyed 43 years of marriage. Robert preceded her in death in 1989. Kate loved her family, especially her sister, brothers, in-laws, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing, flowers, birds, her dog Luna, and most of all, her church. Kate was a long time member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison and served at many church events, including parish councils, funeral dinners, card parties, and the Renew and Education Board. She loved to cook and was known for her dinners and cookies! Kate was an election official for 32 years. She is survived by her sister, Jane Navickis of Loves Park, Ill.; brother, John (Anna May) Godfrey of Dodgeville; sister-in-law, Emma Godfrey of Madison; brother-in-law, Harold Johnson of Verona; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many other relatives and friends, who she deeply loved. Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; two brothers, Elmore George Godfrey, who was killed in service during World War II in France and William "Bill" Godfrey; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Owen and Teresa Cassidy; and sister-in-law, Lorene N. Johnson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2009, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church. I will really miss you, Aunt Kate. You and I just talked recently about all of our Christmas Eves together and how it would be nice if we could go back in time for just a day and spend it together with everyone there again.
