Obituary

Turgeon, Valmont Arthur "Val" MADISON/MCFARLAND-Valmont Arthur "Val" Turgeon, age 82, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009. He was born on Feb. 15, 1927, in Edmunston, New Brunswick, Canada, to William and Rose Anna (Burger) Turgeon. Val joined the U. S. Navy after high school in 1944. When World War II ended, he then joined the U. S. Army until his retirement on June 13, 1968. Val married Elizabeth Wilson on Oct. 30, 1988. He recently worked for Harmony House of McFarland, where he enjoyed being around the residents. Vals greatest joys were his military career and his family. He was a member of VFW Post No. 7591. Vals hobbies were bowling and golfing. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children, Carolyn (Arnold) Bowen of Weldon, Calif., Bryan (Debbie) Turgeon of Montello, Kristel (Troy) Pruitt of Tampa, Fla., Vincent (Carrie) Amador of San Diego, Calif., Debra (Nicholas) Petersen of Ben, Ore., Cynthia (John) Grim of Dearborn, Mich., Isela Cook of Cottage Grove, and Albert Gomez of Cottage Grove; 25 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Val was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Rick Turgeon and Valerie Boyd; and 17 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009. Burial will be at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, at noon on Friday. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a pass in review at 7 p.m. conducted by VFW Post No. 7591 on Thursday, March 19, 2009, and also from 8 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.

While I don't know you I saw your loved one pass me on I94 going to Milwaukee. I could see the flag on the casket. I thank him for the service he gave to our country and extend my sympathy for your loss. Sincerely, SW
