John Short

John P. Short, age 78, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at his home. He was born on July 11, 1930 in Carrington, North Dakota, the son of the late Herlan and Sophie (Hanson) Short. After graduating from Carrington High School in 1947, John enlisted with the U.S. Army and continued service with the Army National Guard until he retired in 1968 from the Army as a Captain. John married Inez Bjerke on January 6, 1951 in Carrington. He was employed as a manager with Gambles Dept. Store for the majority of his working career. He also enjoyed the many people he worked with and met at Wicks, Caseys, Walgreens and Noble Ford. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Independent Order of Oddfellows-Carlisle, Iowa and had a variety of interests including golfing, bowling and gardening, but enjoyed most, his time spent with family and friends. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Inez, survivors include his three daughters, Audrey (Skip Hanson) Short of Madison, Dr. Helen (Dr. Jeffrey Hamilton) Short of Texas, and Dawn (Cameron) Brock of Elysian, Minn.; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his sister, Delores (Rudy) Edwardson of Detroit Lakes, MN. Private family services were held in Madison, WI.
