Obituary
Waunakee/Prairie du Sac - Richard W."Dick" Statz, age 64, died unexpectedly at St. Marys Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2008 of complications due to a stroke. He was born on Dec. 15, 1944 in Cross Plains, the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Corcoran) Statz. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1962 through 1965. He married Arlene Mahn on Sept. 10, 1977in Merrill, WI. Richard was involved in the fencing business for over 40 years. He owned and operated Rampart Fence Company for many years before re-joining Qual Line Fence Corp. in Waunakee from which he semi-retired in 2007. Richard was a talented woodworker sharing his projects with family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and hunting and was an avid Packers fan, but loved most the time he spent with his family. Richard will be remembered by his family and friends for his light-hearted quick wit, his ability to live life to its fullest and sharing his gift of laughter with all whom he came in contact with. Anyone who met him truly understood ,you know him for a minute you are his friend for life. In addition to Arlene, his wife of 31 years, survivors include his children, Shelli (Cory) Muth of Merrimac, Paul (Angie) Flynn of Waunakee, Todd (Sandra) Statz of Monterey, CA., Tammie (Martin) Alekna of Friendship, Jenny(Shawn) Martin of DeForest, and Trisha (Rodney) Carlson of Madison; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Ray (Harriet), Ken(Alice), Joe (Kay), Marvin(Vera), Paul, Mike (Gale), Elmer, Gregg, and Mark (Wendy); his sisters, Barb Endres and Maryellen MacLucas; his sister-in-law, Joan Statz, brother-in-law, Larry (Mary Jane) Mahn and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter Sue and two brothers, Donald and Harold "Hebrew". A memorial visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 2421 Church St. (Hwy P), Cross Plains, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009. A gathering will follow at Pine Vista Mobile Home Park, N750 Golf Road, Prairie du Sac from 5:00 until 9:00 PM. A celebration of Richards life will be held at a later date. In honor of Richards request of no flowers, those wishing to express their sympathy may consider a memorial gift to the family
