Obituary
Ellerkamp, Gerhard O. MADISON-Gerhard O. Ellerkamp, age 85, of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009, at Oak Park Nursing Home. He was born on March 22, 1923, in Barsinghausen, Germany, the son of Hermann and Elizabeth Grossman Ellerkamp. Gerhard married Ellinor (Jurgensonn) on March 20, 1948, in Herrsching, Germany. He grew up in Riga, Latvia and in 1956 with his family emigrated to Madison. Gerhard was a veteran of World War II. He was a cabinet maker for Ripp Kitchens, Findorff, and the University of Wisconsin. Gerhard was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Madison German Club, Dank of Sauk City, Madison Turners and Carpenters Local 0314. He enjoyed sailing, traveling and driving new cars. Gerhard is survived by his wife, Ellinor; two sons, Gerhard (Peggy) and Frank (Liz); son-in-law, Bill Harris; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hermann; sister, Helga; daughter, Gisela; and a granddaughter, Sandra. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, with the Rev. Richard Lund presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Although I did not know Gerhard for very long, I very much appreciated the times I did get to spend with him and Ellinor. My prayers go out to Ellinor and the rest of the family.

Gerhard and Ellinor were introduced to us through my sister, Joanie, as Omi and Opa. His bright smile and sparkling eyes will remain in my memory always. It was a privilege to have known him and to entertain them while they were in Alaska. We pray that Ellinor and her family can find comfort from the many years of happy memories and the knowledge that Gerhard is waiting for us in a much better place.
