Obituary
Schultz, Mildred Cecelia MCFARLAND/MADISON-Mildred Cecelia Schultz, age 96, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Hospice. She was born on Aug. 29, 1912, in McFarland, the daughter of Christian F. and Hannah Sophia (Throne) Anderson. Mildred attended McFarland School through eighth grade, at which time her dad passed away and she had to stay home to help her mom with the family farm. She married Carl F. Schultz on April 15, 1932. Mildred was a housekeeper for the Wiedenbeck and Marling families, as well as several others, finally retiring in her early 80s. She is survived by her children, Marion Smithback, Dolores "De" (Bill) Nelson, and Don (Barb) Schultz; grandchildren, Craig (Robin) Smithback, Scott (Lori) Smithback, Leah (Fritz) Elsen, and Donovan (Joey Vossen) Nelson; great-grandchildren, Michael Smithback, Sarah Smithback, Marsha Hahn, Andrew Smithback, Corey Smithback, Anna Elsen, Lauren Elsen, and Maya Nelson Vossen; and sisters-in-law, Harriet Anderson and Josephine Anderson. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents; sister, Goulde Skare; brothers, Harry, Melfred "Shorty", Norman and Art Anderson; and son-in-law, Tory Rolph Smithback. Funeral services will be held at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2165 Linden Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, with the Rev. Patrick Siegler presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare Inc. or Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. A special thanks to the Hospice staff and to Angelus Assisted Living in Cottage Grove. She was a role model and an inspiration to family and friends, and gave unconditional love to all. She had an awesome work ethic, which she instilled in her children and grandchildren throughout the years. Family was very important to her, and the love and care she showed to everyone came back to her full circle.
