Ferol Jensen

STOUGHTON-Ferol A. Jensen, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, after 99 years of a wonderful full life. She was born on Jan. 13, 1910, in Bear Creek, Wis., the daughter of Louise Hoffman Tate and William Tate. Ferol had one brother, Stanley. He preceded her in death, as well as her parents. She was educated at Lawrence University to be a teacher, a vocation she dearly loved. Ferol taught first at Brooklyn, Wis., where she met and married Curtis H. Jensen, on July 3, 1938. They moved to Madison, shortly after marrying, where they had two children, Robert (Dianne) and Richard (Candace). Subsequently, they were blessed with eight grandchildren, Christopher (Myra) Jensen, Scott Jensen, Erik Jensen, Sara Jensen, Alicia (David) Fraseur, Stephanie Garza, Greta (Kirby) Bierman, and Curtis (Jessi) Jensen;16 great-grandchildren; a niece, Sue (Russ) Lamb; and a nephew, Tom (Ardelle) Tate. While in Madison, Ferol taught and worked as an administrative assistant at Frank Allis School. Ferol and Curtis moved to Stoughton in 1955, to begin operation of Jensen Furniture Company. They operated their business together successfully, with Curtis passing away in January 1987. During these years, Ferol was active at Central Lutheran Church, and then Covenant Lutheran Church. She volunteered to assist children with remedial reading help at Kegonsa School. Ferol also was a volunteer driver at Skaalen Nursing Home. A high point of her years of volunteer work was receiving the Stoughton Citizen of the Year award in 1994. Ferol moved to a condominium in Skaalens Vennevoll in 1988, then to Heritage Center, Skaalen assisted living, then unit 6 and finally Friendship Circle at Skaalen Home, until her peaceful death. A memorial service will be held at SKAALEN HOME CHAPEL, 400 N. Morris St., Stoughton, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009, with the Rev. James Koza presiding. Visitation will be at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the Skaalen Nursing Home in Ferols memory.
