Obituary
Kelly, James E. "Jim" MADISON-James E. "Jim" Kelly, 79, passed away peacefully, after an extended illness on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009. He was born on Nov. 10,1929, to Earl and Gertrude (Klein) Kelly, and was a 1948 graduate of Madison East High School. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Joan Mosuch, on Oct. 14, 1950. After high school, Jim went to work with his father at their Kellys Cities Service (Citgo) filling station on East Washington Ave., working alongside him for many years. Later, he worked for Sletten Vending Service from 1973 until 1981, before retiring at age 71. He also enjoyed serving fans at the Coliseum for 25 years. Jim was a charter member of St. Dennis Catholic Church, served on the parish council and took great pride in being a Boy Scout leader for St. Dennis Troop 149. He made friends wherever he went with his jovial banter. The highlight of his life was spending time with his family. He was so proud of his childrens accomplishments in life, and especially looked forward to attending his grandchildrens activities, endearing himself to them. Jim had a love for the outdoors, but he and Joan especially loved the time spent at their campsite near Devils Lake State Park. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan; his children, Tom (Carole Duh) Kelly of Park City, Utah; Pat (Gary) Erickson of DeKalb, Ill. and Barb (Joe) Smith of Madison; grandchildren, Emily (Adam Betz) Erickson-Betz, Charlotte (Brandon Eames) Erickson, Greg and Kevin Smith, Chris Duh (Shannon Kinney-Duh), Erin Murphy, Michael Duh and Meghan (Ben) Droessler; and sister, Jean Knickmeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Thursday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Dennis Catholic Church.

I am so glad that I was able to live so close to you and spend so much time with you throughout my life. You were such a great person and always fun to be around. Just about every memory I have of you, you were always happy and smiling. I wish I would have seen you one last time but I know that you will always be watching over me. Thank you so much for being such a huge part of my life. I love and miss you.
